Florida and the slot machines race
The state was the first one to put slot machines at its tracks
In March 2005, Broward County citizens approved a measure to allow slot machines at four racetracks. The Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino, which is expected to open in a week or two, was the first one to receive 400 slot machines on October 20th. Hollywood Greyhound Track is next.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania is preparing to open its first racetrack casinos or “racinos”. “While Pennsylvania continues to be in the news, Florida's first slot machines turn on in the next few weeks, substantially ahead of Pennsylvania's time table,” Larry Klatzkin, Jeffries analyst, wrote.

Two years ago, Pennsylvania approved a law that allowed 61,000 slot machines. On the other hand, slot parlors in Florida can have up to 1,500 slot machines. The three casinos owned by the Seminole Indians, which have also received a slots license, have been set no limit about the number of slots they can offer.

The first Pennsylvania racetrack to introduce slots will be Pocono Downs.
