Slot machines and table games are a big attraction
According to the Macau Government Tourist Office the traffic of gamblers from Japan to Macau has increased compared to last year’s figures, however, the Office is taking measures to increase this rate even more, up to 15 percent. The MGTO plans to strengthen bonds with Japanese travel agencies to convert Macau in the country’s destination of choice.
While numbers increase rapidly, thanks to the development of megaresorts and casinos that offer slot machines, table games and several entertainment options, a spokesperson for the MGTO said now they will focus on attractions for middle-aged visitors, seniors and female travelers.
This will allow the Office to achieve the ambitious goal of working on promotions with Japanese travel agencies so as to share a common approach to draw approximately 350,000 visitors from the Asian country in 2008. That would represent a 15 percent growth compared to 2007.
The record of Japanese tourists to the former Portuguese colony is 516,002 and it was reached in 1996.
